Portrait

You do not play to have fun. Okay, you do, but your kind of fun means getting better. You know your stats, your hit rate and probably the exact DPI of your mouse.

Solo into ranked, headphones on, world off. You would rather trust your own hand than a random teammate who rushes off again without a word. Every defeat is a data source for you that you will look at later in the replay.

Your settings are a small work of art. And woe betide anyone who touches them.

Strengths

  • You learn systematically from mistakes and keep getting better as a result.
  • You notice the smallest differences in response and frame rate.
  • You stay focused under pressure.

Pitfalls

  • One bad day in ranked can ruin your whole evening.
  • Sometimes you chase milliseconds that you would not actually feel.
  • Taking breaks is hard for you, even though they would make you better.

The right setup

Monitor
240 Hz or more, ideally at 24 to 25 inches. For you a fast monitor is the most important purchase of all.
Graphics card
A mid-range card is enough in competitive games because you play on low details. Look for stable frame rates, not ray tracing.
Processor
At very high frame rates it is usually the processor that holds things back. A fast processor, ideally with lots of cache, is money well spent here.
Memory and storage
16 GB of fast RAM is enough. A stable, cleanly set-up system matters more than more gigabytes.
Accessories
Light mouse, large mouse pad, good headphones for hearing where enemies are. You need a microphone less often than others.
Software
NVIDIA Reflex or AMD Anti-Lag where the game offers it, a frame rate cap and a short warm-up in Aim Lab before ranked.
